Thames Tideway Central
Client: Thames Tideway
Principal Contractor: Ferrovial Agroman UK Ltd and Laing O’Rourke Construction Joint Venture
Value of contract: TBC
Description of Works:
The supply and installation of loose pairs of AZ20-700 steel sheet piles 7m – 8m long for anti-scour protection.
The piles were installed using a Movax side-grip vibratory hammer based on 35-tonne 360o tracked excavator. The piles were pre-augered prior to installation using an excavator mounted auger drive and auger flights. Following Movax installation to vibratory refusal a number of the piles were back-driven to level using an IHC Fundex CPE15 excavator mounted hydraulic impact hammer.
These works took place in an existing cofferdam in the middle of the River Thames and so the excavator had to be lifted into place using the existing crawler cranes and a 40-tonne capacity excavator tray.
